ALBANY/LIGONIER – Leona (Biberstine) Adams, age 89, Ligonier, died Monday afternoon at Avalon Village, Ligonier. Born in Adams County on Nov. 16, 1922, her father was David N. Biberstine whose family was from the Berne/Geneva area; her mother was Elizabeth E. (Hockstedler) Biberstine. Leona was a resident of Eaton and Albany for several years before moving to Ligonier where she lived the past 12 years. She was a member of Albany First Church of The Nazarene and a retiree of Marhoeffer Meat Packing Co., Muncie, where she worked for 25 years.
Survivors include 2 sons: Charles W. Adams (wife: Terri), Yorktown, and Thomas R. Adams (wife: Joan), Ligonier; a daughter: Johnetta Lutton (husband: John V.), Ligonier; a half-sister: Carol Ann Biberstine; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John Henry Adams, who died in 1986. Her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters are also deceased.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to Alzheimer's Association or Albany First Church of The Nazarene.
