MUNCIE – Juana Clapper, age 80, Muncie, died Saturday morning at Signature Health Care of Muncie from natural causes. Born near Warren, Indiana, on December 15, 1933, she was the daughter of Lawrence & Helen Long. She graduated from Marion High School in 1951 then received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marion College, and a Master of Arts degree from Ball State University. Both degrees were in elementary education. Juana moved to California and was a second grade school teacher in the Whittier school district for 35 years before retiring in 1997. She belonged to the Crystal Cathedral Church in Garden Grove, CA, Order of The Eastern Star, and the California State Teachers Association. Juana enjoyed life by traveling, shopping, eating out, and always looking her best. She collected giraffes and angels, and in earlier years liked to camp. The past several years of her life was spent as a resident of Muncie.
She is survived by her brother, Rev. John Long (wife: Sherril), Albany.
Her husband, Jack Clapper, died in 1997. Her parents are also deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
