John Paul Stephenson, age 76, Albany, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at home with family by his side following a brief illness. Born in Muncie on May 20, 1949, he was a lifelong resident of Delaware County, including Muncie, Selma, and Albany. John was a 1967 graduate of Selma High School. He was a carpenter by trade who worked in the Physiology & Health Sciences Dept. at Ball State University, at Meredith & Minnick Builders, at Ball Corporation, and retired from Anderson Community Schools in 2012.
John attended Glad Tidings Church (Dunkirk), where he served on the security team, as a custodian, and with many community outreaches. He also enjoyed martial arts, both as a student and instructor. After his love for Jesus, John’s greatest pursuit and passion was his family. He was a generous husband and father who spent his free time working on home improvement projects for anyone who asked and spoiling his grandkids. He was quick with a joke, always willing to share his knowledge of building, nature, and the Bible, and leaves an incredible legacy of faith to his family and all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 48 years, Helen (Philebaum) Stephenson; daughters: Jenn Collins (husband: Frank), Muncie, and Rachael Robertson (husband: Joe), Muncie; sons: Daniel Stephenson (wife: Kurstin), Albany, and Benjamin Stephenson (wife: Rachel), Eaton; sisters: Janet Jackson (husband: Joe, deceased), Janesville, WI, Judy Dummitt (husband: Leonard, deceased), Louisville, KY, and Cindy Huffman (husband: Rick), Parker City; brothers-in-law: David Philebaum (wife: Brenda), Muncie, and Kenneth Philebaum (wife: Connie), Old Town, FL; 13 grandchildren: Isaac (wife: Gabby), Lili, Nathan, Shawn, and Charlie Collins; Ezekiel and Ellyana Robertson; Jamie, Nicole, and Ian Stephenson; Elijah, Noah, and Elizabeth Stephenson; as well as many nieces & nephews.

Visiting hours are Monday, February 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church in Muncie, (3001 S Burlington Dr) followed by the funeral ceremony at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery, Albany.
