John Sargent, age 55, Dunkirk, died Tuesday June 24, 2025 at IU Health Methodist Hospital. Born in Portland on June 14, 1970, he grew up in Dunkirk and attended Jay County High School. He worked at Indiana Glass Co. until it closed, was a driver for the Amish, and managed Sisco Trailer Park in Dunkirk for 25 years. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and junking – but more especially he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Kristina (Jones) Sargent; sons: John Sargent II (companion: Andy), Dunkirk, and Brian Sargent, Dunkirk; daughter: Amber Lynn Oberlin (husband: Roger), Bryant; sisters: Deb Vanscyoc, Dunkirk, Rita Saucedo, Dunkirk, Diana Morales, Frostproof, FL, and Babbette Sargent, Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren: Maci, Damion, Phebie, Amara, Alli, Kevin, Maverick, and Nora.
He is preceded in death by parents: James (Sr.) & Anita (Ferguson) Sargent, brothers: Alan Sargent and James Sargent, Jr., and sister: Betty "Peanut" Miller.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Meacham Funeral Service with burial at Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery. A carry-in dinner will follow at Kingsley Full Gospel Church, Dunkirk.
Visiting hours are Thursday from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
