ALBANY – Joe B. Hardwick, age 75, Albany, died Wednesday Feb. 6, 2013, at his daughter and son-in-law's home following an extended illness. Born Nov. 28, 1937 in Adair County, Kentucky, he moved to Indiana at a young age and had lived near Albany since 1968. At age 16 he began work in the bakery at Marsh Supermarkets and stayed for over 40 years, retiring in the 1990's. Joe was a retired Teamster and enjoyed shuffleboard and gardening, eagerly sharing his produce with family and friends.
Survivors include a son: Joe R. Hardwick, Gaston; 2 daughters: Lisa A. Hardwick and Brenda K. Rose (husband: Steve), both of Muncie; a brother: Johnny Hardwick (wife: Wanda), KY; a sister: Louise Hood, KY; 4 grandchildren: Stephanie, Joey, Russell, and Shaunna; 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews including special nephew Richard Hardwick.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Oren Q. and Bessie M. Hardwick; 4 brothers: Tyler, James, Elwin, and Ed Hardwick, and 2 sisters: Ruth Bates and Mae Mullins.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Union Cemetery, DeSoto.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
