DUNKIRK – Joseph "Joe" Grogg, age 80, rural Dunkirk, died Monday night at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following brief health complications. Born in Jay County on Dec. 23, 1934, he grew up in Redkey and lived south of Dunkirk for 37 years. Joe retired in 1992 from Saint Gobain Container Corp. (now Ardagh Group), Dunkirk, after working in the glass industry for 41 years. In earlier years he enjoyed square dancing, roller skating, camping, and fishing/ice fishing. He custom built fishing poles and was a skilled rod wrapper in the 1970's. He also enjoyed woodcarving and belonged to Jay County Woodcarvers. He recently became active in playing euchre and making rosaries.
Survivors include his daughter, Waletta Burress (spouse: Duane), Muncie; a sister: Betty Dailey, Bryant; six grandchildren: Jodi Morgan (spouse: Doug), Albany, Jeremy Patterson (spouse: Jaythan), Muncie, Wendy Brown (spouse: Josh), Eaton, Devon Weaver (spouse: Matt), Dunkirk, Jaimie Harvey, Ft. Wayne, and Dora Burress, Montpelier; twelve great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His wife of 58 years, Edna "Peg" Grogg, died July 12, 2014. Also deceased are his parents: Fred & Margaret Grogg, and two daughters: Peggy Curts and Connie Grogg.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
