ALBANY – Jerry D. Robbins, age 75, Albany, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2011 at home with family by his side; he fought a courageous battle with lung cancer for 2 ½ years. He was born in Portland on May 30, 1936 to the late Martha Hudson and Fredius Robbins. Jerry served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Dunkirk, and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, boating and spending time with his grandchildren. He retired from Kerr Glass, Dunkirk, after working there 37 years; after retirement he farmed in Jay County with Rodgers Farms.
He will be sadly missed by his loving daughter: Kim Besser (husband: Matt), Albany; 3 sons: Randy A. Robbins (wife: Susan), Medaryville, Gary D. Robbins (wife: Gayle), Rittsville, WA, and Mark E. Robbins (wife: Amy), Tampa, FL; 2 brothers: Larry Robbins (wife: Martha), Blackford Co. and Arley Robbins (wife: Donna), Blackford Co.; 3 sisters: Betty Stafford, Eaton, Donna May, Portland, and Patty Sinclair (companion: Mike), Kokomo; 18 grandchildren: Zaine M. Tiller (fiancé: Tiffany), Chaz M. Tiller (fiancé: Tiffany), Mashayla A. Norris, Matthew D. Norris, Grant T. Norris, Chevy M. Norris, Abigail Robbins, Benjamin Robbins, Megan Robbins, Christopher Robbins, Nathaniel Robbins, Caleb Robbins, Gary Robbins, Jr., Vivian Robbins, Daniel Robbins, Alexandra Robbins, Rylee Robbins and Keegan Robbins; 7 great-grandchildren: Nevaeh R. Tiller, Quentin & Qwest Peterson, Trista & Elizabeth Robbins, and Kyle & Donald Robbins; also, his little buddies: Scooby-Doo and Harley Jane.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister: Barbara Hubbard; a grandson: Jeremiah Robbins; 2 brothers-in-law: Hubert Stafford and Everett May, and his Aunt Marie & Uncle Sidney Manor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Dunkirk, with Pastor Randy Davis officiating. Military rites will be provided by members of the Dunkirk American Legion.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to defray funeral expenses; they may be mailed in care of Meacham Funeral Service, P.O. Box 275, Albany, IN 47320.
