MUNCIE – Jerry L. Morton, age 73, Muncie, died Monday night at Morrison Woods Health Campus following an extended illness. Born in Otwell, IN on April 12, 1938, he went to school in Otwell and Torrance, California and was a resident of Petersburg, IN for several years before recently moving to Muncie.
Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the V.F.W. and Moose Lodge, both in Petersburg. He enjoyed being outdoors working in the yard, gardening, fishing, boating, and in earlier years – hunting.

Jerry worked for General Electric, later known as Honeywell and Bull Information Systems, for 25 years; he was a computer technician and district manager. He retired in 2008 as a computer technician for the State of Indiana Carlisle Correctional Facility.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Freda (Licht) Morton; a son: Jerry A. Morton, Boise, ID; 2 grandchildren: Jackson L. Morton and Kenney Morton, both of Boise, ID; several cousins and brothers/sisters-in-law; his father-in-law: Roscoe Licht, Albany; 13 nieces & nephews, and 21 great nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and mother-in-law: Mildred K. Licht.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Burial will take place at a later date in Black Cemetery, Albany.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
