Obituary

ALBANY – Former Albany resident Jeffrey William Marks, age 69, Nashville, TN, died Sunday Oct. 4, 2015, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville following an illness.  Born in Muncie on March 27, 1946, he graduated from Albany High School in 1964.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Master of Arts Degrees in Education and History from Ball State University. Jeff was a school teacher for nearly 40 years, teaching at various locations across the country and abroad; his last assignment was at Hillsboro High School in Nashville, TN.  He was also a lifelong musician who played banjo, guitar, trumpet, and harmonica; he played with several groups in Nashville over the years.  In 1977 Jeff served in the Peace Corps in Morocco and other areas in North Africa.  He was an active member of Johnson's Chapel United Methodist Church, Nashville, where he was church historian and choir member.  Other memberships included the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Shriners International.  When time allowed he enjoyed photography and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Barbara Stanford Marks; his son: Geoffrey Russell Marks (wife: Katie), Indianapolis; 2 step-daughters: Stephanie Sutton, Miami, FL, and Allison Self (husband: Joey), Nashville, TN; a sister: Marilyn J. Marks, Albany; 4 step-grandchildren: twins Wyatt and Remington Goins, Garrett and Morgan Self.  Nieces, nephews, and other extended family also remain.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice Mae Marks, and his birth mother: Jeanne E. Summerfield Marks.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Albany United Methodist Church with Rev. Neil Butcher officiating.  Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held in Tennessee at a later date.
