SELMA – James A. "Jim" Vorhees, age 72, Selma, died Saturday March 5, 2011, surrounded by family at home. Born in Muncie on April 7, 1938, he was a resident of Delaware County for most of his life. Jim worked at Wearly Monuments for 10 years during the late 1960's and early 1970's while also working at Borg Warner where he worked 35 years until retirement in 1996. After retiring he worked at Carquest Auto Parts, Muncie, for 8 years until becoming ill in 2010. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran and member of American Legion Post 167, Albany. He was also a member of Full Gospel Temple, Muncie. Jim had great pride in his family and grandchildren; he loved to hear the stories of what the grandchildren were doing. He loved people, and was always giving and caring of those in need. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing in many ponds around the state – and was always looking for a bigger fish.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Janet (Evans) Vorhees; 2 sons: Mike Vorhees (wife: Wilma), Kansas City, MO, and Randy Vorhees, Albany; 2 daughters: Lisa Devine, Muncie, and Karen Penny (husband: Dave), Greenfield; 3 brothers: William T. Vorhees, Jr. (wife: Helen), Muncie, Leslie "Butch" Green (wife: Connie), Muncie, and Robert Green, Muncie; 2 sisters: Carolyn Haffner (husband: Bob), Double Springs, AL, and Patricia Hall, Double Springs, AL; 6 grandchildren: Kristin Devine, Kara Dowd (husband: Aaron), Nikki Araoz (husband: Luis), Timothy Sewell, Andrew Vorhees, and Austin Vorhees. His first great-grandchild is expected next month. Jim also leaves behind a special friend: Brent Devine, Selma, a large group of amish friends, and several extended family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, William T. Vorhees, Sr., his mother: Grace McKeighen, and a sister: Dessie Phillips.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Tuesday March 8, 2011, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Jones Cemetery, Yorktown, with military services provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
