ALBANY – James Hauri, age 86, Albany, died Tuesday morning at home from natural causes. He was born in Connersville on June 7, 1928, and also lived in Chesterfield before moving to the Albany area in 1968. He retired from Indiana Steel & Wire in 1991 after working there 23 years. Jim was a U.S. Air Force veteran having joined towards the end of World War II. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and traveling – one of his favorite trips was a cruise to Alaska. He also enjoyed panning for gold in Georgia.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Flora Hauri; a son: Michael Hauri, Murfreesboro, TN; a daughter: Vicki Jeffers, Evansville; two step daughters: Rosie Stettler, Grafton, NY, and Jackie Stewart (husband: David), Albany; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. His faithful pet & companion, Joy, never left his side and was with him to the end.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Muncie, with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
