Helen M. Daugherty, age 96, Albany, died Wednesday September 25, 2024 at Morrison Woods, Muncie. Born in Muncie on January 19, 1928, Helen was a lifelong Albany resident and a 1945 graduate of Albany High School. She was a homemaker and worked at Indiana Glass, Dunkirk, before raising a family. She was the oldest living member of Albany Christian Church (over 60 years) and was a former member of Gamma Nu Sorority. Helen enjoyed reading, crocheting, traveling, painting ceramics, and mail-in contesting.
Survivors include sons: Michael E. Daugherty (wife: Marsha), Clayton, NC, and Larry D. Daugherty (wife: Cinda), Albany; daughter: Sharon K. Pierce (husband: William), Winchester, KY; grandchildren: Dean Daugherty (wife: Lara), Huntsville, AL, Todd Daugherty (wife: Leslie), Wendell, NC, Eric Daugherty, Albany, Andy Kirby (wife: Pam), Remmington, and Beth Taylor (husband: Troy), Muncie; great-grandchildren: Kristen, Justin, Aira, Brynn, Corbyn, Brayden, McKenna, Chase, and Alyssa; great-great-grandchildren: Finnleigh, Parklynn, and Lucy, and several nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Bill D. Daugherty, who died in 2009; parents: John & Leota (Carr) Rupert; brother: Robert Rupert, and sisters: Mary Jane Young and Geraldine Gregg.
The funeral will begin at 12:00 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2024 at Meacham Funeral Service with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Casual dress is preferred.
Visiting hours are Monday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to Albany Christian Church or Indiana State Library Foundation – Talking Book & Braille Library fund.
