Obituary

Harry D. Baker, 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Albany Health and Rehabilitation Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Muncie on November 12, 1923, the son of Harry K. and Mary E. Baker and later graduated from Muncie Central in 1941, having played basketball for the Bearcats. He attended Indiana Technical College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, receiving his associate's degree in electrical engineering in early 1943. His 50 years of experience of sales in the electrical field began when he entered the workforce during the height of WWII, working for Muncie Tool and Engineering, which designed tools that built B-17 bombers. After the war, he joined Eastern Electric Supply and stayed there until 1958, when he joined Engineering Products, and became partner and vice president in 1960 until 1978. Later that year, he started working for Crouse-Hinds, and he finished his professional career working nine years with Electrical Specialties, from where he retired in 1994. In his retirement, he stayed active, as with his electrical knowledge and know-how he was always in demand in the community for various wiring, lighting and repair projects and anything that required an engineer's eye for detail. He also raised beef cattle, and enjoyed travelling with his wife, Virginia.

Survivors include his four sons David (wife, Janet) LaPorte; Donald (wife, Debra) Parker City; Darrell (wife, Lisa) Muncie; and Douglas, Albany; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; brother John, Ocala, FL; and three nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 60 years, Virginia; and son, Harry Dean Baker.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2016, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Family and friends may call Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Services of East Central Indiana (Little Red Door), 2311 W. Jackson Street, Muncie, IN 47303.
