ALBANY – Harold D. Liggett, age 84, Albany, died Friday morning at home following an illness. He was born in Delaware County on March 26, 1931, and lived east of Albany for the past several years. Harold was a graduate of Saratoga High School and was a radio operator during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He was a union carpenter for a long time and with his loving wife, Velna, owned & operated Liggett Greenhouses & Floral Shop in Albany for over 40 years. Harold was a member of the American Legion in Albany and enjoyed camping, growing plants, and spending winters in Largo, Florida.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Velna Liggett, and their children: Connie (Liggett) Geesaman, Albany, Steven V. Liggett (wife: Lynn), Albany, and Mona (Liggett) Bertram, Albany; 2 brothers: Ralph Liggett (wife: Barb), Portland, and Ron Liggett (wife: Fran), Redkey; 6 grandchildren: Toby Bellar, Michael Bertram, Quinn Liggett, Becca Lindley (husband: Zach), Celeste Tetrault (husband: Lucas), and Joshua Bertram (wife: Kayla); 3 great-grandchildren: Magnolia, Jacik, and Chancery. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and his best buddy, Rascal.
His brother, Howard Liggett, is deceased.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Burial will follow. Military rites will be provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
