Obituary

Gordon E. Jackson of rural Parker City, Indiana, 87 years of age, left his earthly body and leapt into the arms of his loving Savior Monday morning June 8, 2026. He passed at home surrounded by the love of his family.

Born to Carl and Dorothy Jackson on December 29, 1938, Gordon spent his early years helping on the farm and tending to the herd of Red Poll cattle and other jobs around the farm. In his free time, Gordon participated in 4H from 1949 to 1958 and later served as an adult 4H leader from 1961 until 2020 and proudly claimed to be the world’s oldest 4H member and he learned by doing and tried to make the best better his entire life.

Gordon graduated from Green Township High School in 1956 and the Indiana Business College in 1957. He worked at the A&P Grocery from 1956 until 1966. Later, he worked at the Davis -Purdue Ag Center from 1966-2003 where he recorded the daily weather for 37 years.

Gordon also belonged to the Indiana Red Poll Breeders Association, serving as the Secretary Treasurer for over 30 years. He served as the Red Poll Breed manager at the Indiana State Fair for over 30 years as well. His memberships also included the Eastern Indiana Livestock Breeders Association and the Green Township Alumni Association. He served in the Indiana National Guard from 1957 to 1963. He belonged to the Delaware East Camp of Gideons International for several years.

In 1986 Gordon became a Certified Lay Pastor in the United Methodist Church and for 36 years served and led the congregations at many area churches including Bethel (Albany)1986-2006, Morningside (Muncie) 2000-2006, Madison Street (Muncie) 2006-2014, Bellefountain (Portland) 2014-2022 and Fairview (Portland) 2014-2022.

Gordon married the love of his life, Lillie “Marie” Rockhill on August 21, 1960 and enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage. Together Gordon and Marie belonged to Friendly Rural Couples. Gordon especially enjoyed entertaining groups with Marie as Grandma and Grandpa Jackson. Together Gordon and Marie had 3 sons and 1 daughter. Andy of Houston, Texas, Joe of Warren, Indiana, Jim of Farmland, Indiana and Dawn and her husband Chuck Nunan of Madison, Indiana. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Megan Jackson, Skyler and Kiersten Jackson, Kendra and Jefferson Pike, Alex and McKensey Nunan, Lindsay and Conner Ray and 8 great grandchildren, Malcolm, Stevie, Myla, Sabrina, Whyatt, Adalynne, Evelyn and Thomas.

Also surviving are sister Bonnie Egdell of Ligonier, Indiana, brother Rollin Jackson of Ridgeville, Indiana and sister-in-law Teresa Jackson of Greensfork, Indiana as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Gordon in death include parents Carl and Dorothy Jackson, brother Floyd and his wife Nancy Jackson and brother Bill Jackson and great grandson Jackson Pike.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday June 14, 2026 at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Parker City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the church with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service.

Burial will occur at a later date at Buena Vista Cemetery in Randolph County.

Gordon wanted everyone to know that his life had been a success. He loved his fellow man, helped all to grow spiritually and made us laugh.
