DELAWARE COUNTY – Geraldine Hardland was born on January 16, 1919 and lived almost 95 years until her death on January 14, 2014. Daughter of Milo and L. Valera Stafford, Geraldine was born in Hartford City as one of six children. Her childhood was spent in Niles and Delaware Townships. She graduated from Eaton High School.
Leonard S. Hardland was born two years and three days earlier, January 13, 1917 in Larimore, ND and died November 3, 1998. Son of Chris and Hannah Hardland, Leonard was one of seven children. His childhood was spent in Larimore and Petersburg, ND, where he graduated from high school. He also graduated from the University of North Dakota.
Following their graduations, they each moved to Washington, DC for federal government jobs. They married on Valentine's Day in 1942 and raised their five children in Silver Spring, MD. They also lived in Frederick, MD.
They are survived by their five children, four granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren; also surviving is Geri's sister, Betty Fager, DeSoto.
A graveside service for Geraldine and Leonard will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Black Cemetery, west of Albany.
