DUNKIRK – Gerald B. Mills, age 96, Dunkirk, died Monday morning at Bluffton Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. Born in Portland on August 23, 1913, his parents were Edgar O. & Nora B. Mills. He graduated from Portland High School and was a woodworker, remodeling several homes over the years. Gerald retired in the 1970's from Marhoeffer Packing Co., Muncie, after working several years. He also farmed in Jay & Delaware County and was a member of Halfway Lodge No. 298, F. & A.M., Redkey.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lulu J. Mills; 5 sons: John Mills, P.G. Mills (wife: Connie), Jack L. Mills, James R. Mills (wife: Jane), and David E. Mills; 2 step-sons: Larry Zigler & Tom Zigler; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Helen V. Mills, and his parents.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday March 18, 2010, at Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Masonic rites by Halfway Lodge. Burial will follow. There will be no viewing hours.
