Obituary

George Hinderer, age 85, Albany, died Monday March 30, 2026 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born in Anderson on April 30, 1940, he grew up there and lived in Arizona and Colorado before moving to Albany in 1966. He was a floor layer and union carpenter for over 60 years, doing mostly commercial construction before retiring. George operated One Horse Affair that offered carriage rides at various East Central Indiana venues including An Albany Christmas and Christmas at Minnetrista. For nine years he participated at the Indiana State Fair Pioneer Village and at Connor Prairie. George was a member of Indiana Percheron Association and back in the 1960s belonged to Central Indiana Saint Benard Club. He ran his own saw mill and enjoyed traveling, ocean cruises, and attending farm sales.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Janice (Hook) Hinderer; son: Chris Hinderer, Fairplay, CO; daughters: Becky Napert (husband: Paul), Albany, Brandee Richardson (husband: Todd), Albany, and Beverly Hinderer (companion: Daryl Thompson), Albany; 4 grandchildren: Liberty, Nickolas, Grace, and Aeleen Tarr (husband: David), Columbia, MD; 2 nieces, and 3 nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents: George & Cora (DeArmond) Hinderer, a sister: Margaret Hogue, and half-sister: Mary Langley.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place; there will be no public services.
