ALBANY – Delaware county resident Gene R. Gleeson, age 78, died Saturday night at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Born in Portland on Dec. 28, 1933, he grew up in Jay County and graduated from Governor I.P. Gray High School in 1951. He attended Butler and Purdue University before joining the U.S. Army where he belonged to the 82nd Airborne Division. Gene worked in trucking for 15 years before going to G & G Oil and Petro Technology, Muncie, where he retired from in 1995. After retiring he grew produce on his farm for farmers markets near and far. He was a member of Albany United Methodist Church, Jay Co. Historical Society, and a lifetime member of Albany Golf Club. Gene enjoyed being with people and always enjoyed a good conversation.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Darlene S. Gleeson; 4 sons: Shane Gleeson, Muncie, Terry Gleeson (wife: Patricia), Gilbert, AZ, Randy Gleeson (wife: Katina), Gaston, and Chris Gleeson (wife: Adriana), Gilbert, AZ; a brother: Larry Gleeson (wife: Kay), Carmel; 2 sisters: Norma Gleeson, Rock Springs, WY and Marilyn Music (husband: Larry), Louisville, KY; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces & nephews, and 2 close relatives: Jim Clevenger (wife: Wanda), Albany and Kenny Bullock, Muncie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Percy L. and Freda (Steed) Gleeson, and a brother: Kenneth Gleeson.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012 at Albany United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.
