November 7, 1938 – March 14, 2017
Eugene L. White, age 78, died Tuesday evening at home with his family by his side. Born in Richmond on Nov. 7, 1938, he graduated from Winchester High School and was an Albany resident since 1969. He was a toolmaker at Delaware Machinery & Tool, Muncie, for 30 years before retiring and had worked at other tool shops in the area. Gene was a U.S. Marine Corps. veteran and a member of Redkey Community Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher. He was an avid fisherman/outdoorsman, enjoyed walking and watching his grandkids and great-grandkids play. He loved his candy and reading war history books and The Bible.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-two years, Bessie (Lowe) White, and their children: Jeffrey White (wife: Lindley), Albany, Jerry White (wife: Shawna), Albany, and Jinnie Vance (husband: Robert), Yorktown; eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a brother: Donald White (wife: Jo Ann), Maggie Valley, NC; a brother-in-law: Lacie Lowe (wife: Rose), Smokey Junction, TN; four sisters-in-law: Bernetta Grayson, Eaton, Della Johnson, Dunkirk, Dean Stephens, Knoxville, TN, and Bertha Phillips (husband: Homer), Wartburg, TN; several nieces & nephews, a special neighbor: Margaret Bow, and special friends: Gordon Lowe and Harold Anderson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon & Dorothy White, and his brother: James White.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
