ALBANY – Ervin Sheller, age 89, Albany, died Monday morning at home. Born near DeSoto on Oct. 7, 1922, he was the son of Robert N. and Alma M. (Shatto) Sheller. He worked at Warner Gear in Muncie before joining the U.S. Army during WWII. After the service he worked for the United States Postal Service where he served as Postmaster and later retired as a rural carrier. He also farmed and raised livestock in Delaware County for several years. Ervin was a member of the United Methodist Church and Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M. and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed traveling to Canada for fishing trips every summer.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Jo Ann Sheller; 2 sons: Don E. Sheller (wife: Beverly), Ridgeville and Ted Sheller, Muncie; a daughter: Ann Sheller, Tampa, FL; a brother: Harold Sheller, Albany; 2 sisters: Uarda Hines, Albany and Martha Voigt (husband: Carroll), Indianapolis; 3 grandchildren: Kristie Huston (husband: Brad), Samantha Morris (husband: Matthew), and Tyler Sheller; 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers: Robert Sheller and Richard Sheller.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with Pastor Sharon Taylor officiating. Burial will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 12-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
