ALBANY – Longtime Albany resident Emil R. Wimpelberg died the night of Tuesday April 20, 2010 at Ball Memorial Hospital. Born in Evansville on December 4, 1924, he graduated from Central High School, Evansville, and then served during WWII in the Philippines as a part of the United States Army. After the service he attended Evansville College and eventually moved to Albany in 1963 after living in Speedway. Mr. Wimpelberg enjoyed bowling in earlier years and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in Muncie. He was a banker for most of his working life, eventually retiring in 1988 as Vice President of Summit Bank (now Chase Bank) in Muncie. He worked at the Albany branch for a number of those years before it closed. He was a member of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Albany, and a former member of the Albany Lions Club. He will be remembered as a good, honest man.

Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Wimpelberg; in July they would have celebrated 61 years of marriage. Also surviving are several nieces & nephews.

His parents, Emil W. & Lorena Wimpelberg, are deceased.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday April 26, 2010, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Private burial will take place at Strong Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Salvation Army or Muncie Mission.
