Obituary

DUNKIRK – Elizabeth "Libby" Garr, age 93, formerly of Dunkirk, died Saturday night at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, IN. Born in Muncie on July 11, 1917, she was the daughter of Homer W. and Hazel L. (Ayres) McDaniel. She was a graduate of Dunkirk High School (class of 1935) and Ball State University. Mrs. Garr retired in 1978 from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles where she worked as a Driver Examiner Supervisor at the Dunkirk branch. She was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of Order of The Eastern Star – Halfway Chapter 230, Redkey, a lifetime member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority, and a member & past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post 227, Dunkirk. She was a recipient of the Sagamore of The Wabash award and at one time was the Republican Party secretary for the 10th Congressional District.

She is survived by her son, Robert Dean Garr, Dallas, TX; a grandson: Jeffrey J. Garr, Sr. (wife: Jennifer), Leesburg, IN; a granddaughter: Robin Jones, North Webster, IN; 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband of 42 years, Marion R. Garr, died in 1980. Her parents are also deceased.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2010, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be from 12 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
