Eleanor Barrett, age 96, was Albany's longest-living lifelong resident of the town; she died Sunday May 19, 2024 at home. Born in Albany on August 16, 1927, she graduated from Albany High School with the class of 1945. She was a librarian aide at Albany Elementary School for 25 years before retiring. Eleanor was a 70+ year member of Albany United Methodist Church and belonged to Albany Tri Kappa and Canasta Club. She took pride in decorating the library for the seasons & holidays and enjoyed bird watching and collecting milk glass. She was an avid Pacers & Reds fan and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters: Jane Hall (husband: Steve), Albany, and Julie Moody, Albany; grandchildren: Mark Hall (wife: Kim), Angela Wilson (husband: Derek), Mike Hall (wife: Angie), Amanda Stanton (husband: Dan), and Amy Overholt (husband: Craig); 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Betty Selvey; a niece, and a nephew.
She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 39 years, Murray E. Barrett; parents: Homer & Mary (Strong) Selvey, and brothers: Richard Selvey who died in infancy and Max Selvey.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will occur at Strong Cemetery.
Visiting hours are Saturday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be sent to Albany Elementary School for the library.
