Walburn

EATON – Donald E. Walburn, age 90, Eaton, died Wednesday night at A.M.G. Specialty Hospital in Muncie. He was born at home Jan. 29, 1925, on the Delaware County farm that has been in his family since the early 20th century; it was his lifelong residence. Don graduated from Eaton High School in 1943 followed by the University of Chicago Signalman's school. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific, mainly in the Philippines. After the military, he returned home and farmed the ground he grew up on until he was 82. He was also a carpenter and employed by Del. Com. schools for forty-two years, serving as bus driver and transportation director. Don was a longtime dedicated member of Redkey Church of The Nazarene and was the treasurer for sixty years.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Maxine (Carpenter) Walburn, and their five daughters: Linda Smith (husband: Ted), Eaton, Teresa Chipps (husband: John, deceased), Nashville, TN, Barbara Monroe (husband: Tony, deceased), Muncie, Janet Bennett (husband: Rob), Boise, ID, and Patty Fraley (husband: Gary), Redkey; thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father: Robert E. Walburn, his mother: Flossie M. (Love) Johnson, and a brother: Robert E. Walburn.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Redkey Church of The Nazarene. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Eaton, with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
