DUNKIRK – Don Bantz, age 83, Dunkirk, died Thursday May 12, 2016 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born in Dunkirk on March 1, 1933, he was the son of Murray N. and Margaret G. (Lanning) Bantz. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 227, Dunkirk, and Calvary United Methodist Church, Dunkirk. Don retired from Kerr Glass (now Ardagh), Dunkirk, after working there for thirty-three years.
Survivors include a daughter: Hildreth Bantz, Salamonie; a step-son: Johnnie Jones (wife: Tina), Hartford City; a step-daughter: Linda K. O'Bryant (husband: Sonny), Albany; a brother: Myron N. Bantz (wife: Connie), Dunkirk; 3 sisters: Mary L. Williams (husband: Ed), Long Beach, CA, Patricia S. Grayson, Muncie, and Martha A. Isenhart (husband: Carl), Albany; also, 8 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
His wife of 13 years, Betty (Miars) Jones Bantz, died in 2012; his former spouse, Jenny Bantz, is also deceased.
Graveside services were held at Black Cemetery with military rites provided by members of American Legion Post 227, Dunkirk. Pastor Susan Durovey-Antrim officiated.
