ALBANY – Longtime Albany resident Don R. "Dick" Hart, age 90, died in the presence of his family Thursday afternoon at Morrison Woods following an extended illness. Born in Kirklin, IN on Oct. 14, 1924, he grew up in Gosport and was a 1942 graduate of Gosport High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps. in 1944 and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Following the war he began a career with the Indiana State Police that lasted 25 years; he retired as a well known Detective First Sergeant. Dick was also Town Marshal in Albany for ten years and farmed for several years in the counties of Delaware, Randolph, and Jay. He was a past master of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Albany, and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. He was also a certified lay pastor that spoke in various area churches and in later years attended Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Dunkirk, with his daughter.
Survivors include three children: Tom Hart (wife: Jenny), Albany, Susie Glogas (husband: Gary), Dunkirk, and Rocky Hart, Los Angeles, CA; a brother: David Hart (wife: Wilma), Morristown; a sister: Nancy Wood, Pendleton; four grandchildren: Adam Glogas, Albany, Holly Faulkner (husband: John), Dunkirk, Kyle Hart (wife: Elizabeth), Overland Park, KS, and Aaron Glogas (wife: Kelly), Auburn; 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Rosemary Hart, who died in 2001. Also deceased are his parents, a brother, and 4 sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Albany United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Black Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 until 6 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with Masonic rites at 6 p.m.
