David D. Hayes, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
David was born on October 3, 1953. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, musician, educator, and friend whose life was marked by perseverance, compassion, humor, and deep love for his friends and family.

The pair recorded professionally during the 1970s after being signed to Sansu records by legendary producer and musician Allen Toussaint. Their music received radio airplay and regional success, including the songs “Nightingale” and “Love Can Change Your Mind.”
Later in life, David returned to school, completing associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. He became a faculty leader at IVY tech and dedicated many years to teaching and encouraging young people to believe in themselves and pursue their potential.
Above all else, David cherished his family. He shared more than 50 years of marriage with the love of his life, Susan, and together they raised five children and welcomed 16 grandchildren. David will be remembered for his quick wit, storytelling, musical talent, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering love and dedication as a father. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
