O'Bryant, Sr.
May 25, 1925 – February 16, 2014
ALBANY – Daniel Leon O'Bryant, age 88, died unexpectedly on Sunday night at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson, IN on May 25, 1925, he grew up in the Gaston/Alexandria area and had lived near Albany for the past several years. Dan spent 25 years in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Boatswain Mate. He served during World War II and the Vietnam & Korean Wars. After the service he worked at Dayton-Walther and later the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier. He attended Fairview United Methodist Church and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved to hunt and fish but his greatest devotion was serving his country and spending time with his family and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Ann O'Bryant; 2 sons: Daniel Leon O'Bryant, Jr. (wife: Lee Ann), St. Marys, GA, and George Gilbert O'Bryant (wife: Doris), Parker City; 2 daughters: Mary Corn (husband: Gary), Redkey, and Patricia Fix, Kingman, AZ; 2 brothers: Pat O'Bryant (wife: Patty), Albany, and Sonny O' Bryant (wife: Linda), Albany; 2 sisters: Alta Brue (husband: Louie), Louisville, KY, and Joetta Chambers (husband: Ray), Pinellas Park, FL; 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Hayward, Briana O'Bryant, Tabitha Spell, George O'Bryant, Donna O'Bryant, Kimberly O'Bryant, Brandi Curtis, Cassey Corn, Dominique Bales, Shawn Gillihan, and Brandy Acheson; also, several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George E. and Jacque H. O'Bryant; 2 brothers: George & Mike O'Bryant, and 4 sisters: Clara Jacque O'Bryant (infant), Virginia Tilden, Cledah Scut, and Mary Porter.
Services will be 5 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Fairview United Methodist Church. Military rites will be provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Cremation will follow.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 10-12 & 3-5 p.m. at the church.
