Obituary

ALBANY – Cleo Powers, age 91, Albany, died Friday morning at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.  Born and raised in Jay County on July 14, 1925, he was a graduate of Governor I.P. Gray High School.  He lived most of his life near Albany and worked over forty years for Chevrolet, Muncie, before retiring in 1987.  Cleo then worked for First Merchants Bank in Muncie for seventeen years and at their Daleville Data Center for seven years before his final retirement.  He held memberships at Albany Christian Church (former Deacon, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and choir member) and DeSoto United Methodist Church (former choir member and served on the finance committee).  Other affiliations include Avondale Sympathy Club, Lions Club, and United Mission for Christ.  Cleo enjoyed supporting Delta High School athletics and was an avid IU basketball fan.  In earlier years he enjoyed bowling and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-eight years, Charlotte Powers; a son: Gary Powers, Portland; a step-son: Kent Sloniker (friend: Brooki McKnight), Muncie; a step-daughter: Vanessa Selvey, Albany; two grandchildren: Trever Powers and Travis Powers (wife: Wendy); two great-grandchildren: Destiny Powers and Tyler Powers; four step-grandchildren: Joseph Selvey, Logan Wilson (husband: Jason), Kacie Sloniker, and Landon Sloniker.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Arla & Edna Powers; four brothers: Leonard B. Powers (infant), Marvin C. Powers, Waymond Powers, his twin: Leo Powers, and two sisters: Miriam Daugherty and Velma Powers.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, at DeSoto United Methodist Church with burial following at Strong Cemetery, Albany.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2 until 8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
