ALBANY – Chris M. Anderson, age 54, Albany, went home to be with the Lord with his loved ones by his side on Wednesday evening at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born in Portland on Feb. 23, 1960, he grew up in Dunkirk and was a 1978 graduate of Jay County High School. He received an Associate degree from Ivy Tech and was a veteran, having served as a U.S. Navy Seabee. Chris was a master carpenter and worked in construction for several years and at one time worked at Bluffton Rubber Co. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Dunkirk, American Legion, Dunkirk Moose Lodge, and Disabled American Veterans. He regularly studied the Bible and was involved in a missions trip in the mid 1980's when he helped build a church in Haiti. Besides woodworking he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandson and family.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Toni K. (Thurman) Anderson, and their children: Katie (Anderson) Franklin, Albany, and Benjamin L. Anderson, Albany; a grandson: Braylon Franklin, Albany; a brother: Clark Anderson (wife: Mary), Redkey; a sister: Lori Bender (husband, Bob, deceased), Uniondale; a step-sister: Dara Veazey (husband: Gene), Lakeland, FL; his step-mother: Annabelle Anderson, Daleville, and several special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd D. Anderson and Anna M. Collins. His brother, Mark Anderson, of Mt. Pleasant, PA, died very recently.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery with military rites provided by members of the Dunkirk American Legion.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
