ALBANY – Carolyn "Suzi" Pittenger, age 75, Albany, died Friday at home following an unexpected illness. Born on Dec. 3, 1939, she grew up in Dunkirk, attended Dunkirk High School, and lived in the Town of Albany for the past 50 years. She worked at Tiara Exclusives, Dunkirk, for 20 years before working in the H.R. Department at Ball Memorial Hospital. She retired in 2005. Suzi loved her family; they were the joy of her life. She loved working outdoors in her many flower gardens and kept busy with Red Hats, Garden Club, and Card Club. She was a Deaconess at E.B. Ball House and especially enjoyed decorating Christmas trees for the luminary walk. With her husband, Larry, she was fortunate to travel the world to places including Africa, Spain, Morocco, Bahamas, and Hawaii. Nana was an amazing cook – her noodles were always requested by her grandchildren at family get togethers.
Survivors include a daughter: Lisa J. Schooley (husband: Rodney), Muncie; a son: Michael L. Pittenger (wife: Marci L.), Muncie; a brother: Dick L. McCammon (wife: Sandra), Hartford City; 5 grandchildren: Amanda Gant (husband: Cory), Ashley Schooley, Emily Pittenger, Rebecca Schooley, and Levi Holdcroft; 2 great-grandchildren: Peyton Gant and McKenna Gant; nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Larry Lee Pittenger, to whom she was married for 50 years. Her parents: Darrell McCammon & Garnet (Wright) Sewell, and a sister: Joynell McCammon, are also deceased.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2015, at Meacham Funeral Service with burial following at Black Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
