DESOTO – Betty A. Johnson, age 90, a former resident of the DeSoto area, died peacefully Tuesday April 1, 2014, at Westminster Village, Muncie. Born in Eaton on April 9, 1923, she was the daughter of William H. & Lena C. Crow. She graduated from Eaton High School in 1940 and received Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education from Ball State University. While her husband was in the military Betty worked for Bell Telephone as an operator and supervisor. Her main occupation was being a second grade teacher at Albany Elementary School from 1971 until retiring from the Delaware Community School Corporation in 1986. She was a 50+ year member of DeSoto United Methodist Church and belonged to Order of The Eastern Star Purity Chapter 126, Hartford City, Kitchen Queens (home economics club), and Sunrisers Womens Church Group.
Survivors include a son: William B. Johnson (wife: Jane), Elizabethtown; 2 daughters: Melaney Sargent, Clayton, and Theresa "Tess" Dillman (husband: Steven), Bluffton; 6 grandchildren: William Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Drew Dillman, Lena Massie, Marcus Lybarger, and Stacia Lybarger; also, 8 great-grandchildren: Ella & William Johnson, Nick & Luke Dillman, Fintan Massie, Ryan Lybarger, and Jordan & Christian Nunez.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers: John & Ronald Crow; a sister: Helen Fox, and 2 grandsons: Richard & Ryan Sears.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at DeSoto United Methodist Church, with burial following at Union Cemetery, Eaton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
