Obituary

ALBANY – Betty Barber Carey died Tuesday April 13, 2010 at her home. She was 89 years of age. Born on August 10, 1920, she was the daughter of Willis & Mary "Trixie" Tyler. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1938 and was employed for Cox and Faris Abstract Co. for a short time. She also worked for several Muncie attorneys, McCormick Bros. in Albany, and Ball Brothers Co. In 1968 Betty earned the title of Certified Professional Secretary. She retired from the Warner Gear division of Borg Warner Corp. in 1982 as Assistant Manager of Labor Relations. Betty was a member of Warner Gear Sympathy Club and a former Tri-Kappa member.

Left to cherish her memory is her family: DeAnn Sewell (husband Ernest), Albany; Patricia Glass (husband: Cliff, deceased), Gaston; Barbara DiFabio (husband: Mark), Mary Martha Carlson (husband: John), Hobart; Jeanne Denton (husband: Michael), and Becky Collins (husband: Jerry), all of Muncie; twenty grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several very special nieces & nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of twenty-four years, John J. Carey, who died in 2005; her son, Richard Martin Barber, in 2006; an infant son, Rex Alan Barber; four sisters, and two brothers.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday April 17, 2010, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday from 11-1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to American Heart Association, Cancer Services of East Central Indiana, or Harvest Soup Kitchen, Muncie.
