ALBANY – Former longtime Albany resident Barbara J. (Feirrell) DeHaven, age 94, passed away Thursday night at Pine Knoll Rehabilitation Center, Winchester. Born in Albany on July 26, 1921 to Clem R. and Bernice (Teverbaugh) Feirrell, she was raised by her grandmother, Margaret J. Teverbaugh, upon the death of her mother in 1922. She graduated from Albany High School in 1938 and attended Muncie Business College. Barbara was a homemaker and active member of Albany Christian Church where, for over 50 years, she played the organ and was a part of the music program. She also belonged to Pollyanna Circle, 20th Century Club, and at one time – Tri Kappa sorority.
Survivors include a son: Phil DeHaven (wife: Linda), Union City, IN 2 daughters: Jane A. Wilson (husband: Michael), West Lafayette, and Mary Trent (husband: Keith), Anderson; a brother: John R. Feirrell, Enola, PA; 7 grandchildren: Michelle (DeHaven) Kurtz Bronakoski (husband: Ronald), Katherine (Wilson) Jarrell (husband: Chuck), Kirby DeHaven, Lance Wilson, Carrie (Trent) Wilson, Curtis Trent (wife: Liz), and Collin Trent (wife: Anna); also, 9 great-grandchildren: John Kurtz (wife: Duranna), Patrick Murray, Rachel Kurtz, Jessica DeHaven, Regan Erny, Natalie DeHaven, Cate Wilson, Amelia Trent, and Thatcher Trent.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Roy A. DeHaven, who died in 2012. Also deceased are her parents; grandson-in-law: Russ Kurtz; sister: Mary Ann Panowicz, and aunt: Nell St. John.
Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany. Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
