Steve Longerbone, age 69, Albany, died Thursday April 12, 2018 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, following an illness. Born in Portland on February 13, 1949, he was a 1968 graduate of Albany High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired out of the Indiana National Guard (Muncie and Bluffton units). Steve worked at Indiana Glass, Dunkirk, during the 1970’s where he met his wife, Sally. He got in the overhead door business while working with his father and eventually established Albany Door Company that he owned & operated for twenty-seven years before retiring in March of 2017. He attended Center Chapel United Methodist Church and was a member of Anthony Lodge No. 171, F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Shrine of Fort Wayne, and American Legion Post 167, Albany. Steve enjoyed the outdoors while camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and four wheeling.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Longerbone, their daughter, Jessica Longerbone, and his beloved dog, Harley. He is preceded in death by his father: Dale Longerbone, his mother: Ruth (Jones) Brown, paternal grandparents: Orlo V. & Mildred Longerbone, and maternal grandparents: Rev. Harry M. & Lula Jones.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Black Cemetery with military rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Masonic rites at 8 p.m.
