Norman Needler

James Norman Needler, age 83, Albany, left to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday January 12, 2019, from IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.  Born near DeSoto on May 29, 1935, he was a lifelong resident of Delaware County.  Norman graduated from DeSoto High School and General Motors Institute (Kettering University), after which he served in the U.S. Air Force.  Norman was a mechanical engineer at Chevrolet for thirty-five years before retiring in 1988.  After retirement he did consultant work at various locations including Saturn and Masco Tech.  He was a member of The Gideons International (Muncie East Camp) for forty-eight years and the DeSoto United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of nearly sixty years, Judith Needler, and their children: Paul Needler, Ruth Williams, and Philip Needler (wife: Sharon).  He also had six grandchildren: Nathan Williams (wife: Layla), Anna Marie Williams, Bethany Williams, Hannah Yeakle (husband: Cameron), Andrew Williams, and Gracie Williams; two great-grandchildren: Gabriel and Aubriella; two brothers: Don Needler (wife: Janet), Marvin Needler (wife: Priscilla), and a sister: Maryellen McGregor (husband: Jim).

His parents, James Delbert & Edna Needler, are deceased.

Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at DeSoto United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Dawn Cuthbert.  Burial will follow at the DeSoto Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10-12 p.m. on Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be sent to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 629 E, Muncie, IN 47308; envelopes will be provided at the church.

As a permanent reference, Norman chose Isaiah 40:8 to be displayed on his monument (“The word of our God shall stand forever”).
