DUNKIRK – Former Dunkirk resident Floccie Taylor, age 88, completed her life here on Earth on July 24, 2010 and joyfully went home to greet her family and friends in Heaven. She was born November 14, 1921 in Clarkrange, TN to Lewis “Jack” and Drucilla “Mintie” (Key) Atkinson. She grew up surrounded by a large extended family on the family farm where she developed her love for gardening and nature. She graduated from Clarkrange High School as the valedictorian. Floccie married Edward Taylor on August 3, 1940; they were married 61 years before his death in 2002. They moved to Indiana in 1951 and lived in the Dunkirk area most of their married life. Most recently she resided at Lynd House, Muncie.

Floccie is survived by her 5 children: Anna Ludwig, Mission Viejo, CA, June Campbell (husband: Paul), Eaton, Dr. James Taylor (wife: Gail), Decatur, Joel Taylor (wife: Sharon), Redkey, and Rose Davis (husband: Randy), Redkey. She also leaves 13 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 14 step great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a sister: Evelyn Wilson, Concord, NC, 2 sisters-in-law: Ilean Helton, Crossville, TN and Edith Drennon, Oak Ridge, TN, and many nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, a grandson, and 2 great-grandsons.

During her life, Floccie’s main calling was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening and worked at Harrison’s Greenhouse part-time. She also worked other part-time jobs from taking the Census and selling Blair products, to working at Krogers and the canning factory. Serving God was a very important part of her life. She taught Sunday school for years, had a passion for missions, and especially served as a dedicated prayer warrior for her church, family, and friends. During her life she was active in the Campground Missionary Baptist Church, Dunkirk Bethel U.M. Church, Union Chapel Ministries, and Dunkirk Calvary U.M. Church. Her other interests included visiting family & friends, reading, sewing, quilting, and traveling. A special highlight in her life was traveling to the Holy Land.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Dunkirk Calvary United Methodist Church by Pastors Chris Nelson, Sharon Taylor (daughter-in-law), and Randy Davis (son-in-law). Burial will follow at Black Cemetery near Albany.

What a glorious time Floccie is having now. No diabetes, no pain or the ravages of growing older. I have many precious memories of Floccie I will cherish always. I will miss her here at Lynd House, but look forward to our reunion beyond this life. Thank you for your christian witness. Marla Ritchie, LEC

May you all remember her for what she was here on earth. Smile at the beautiful woman she was, and the wonderful memories you all were able to share with her. May you accept these same memories as her last precious gifts she has left for all who are now grieving her loss. May you find peace in the knowledge she has gone home to see her Father.
