Raymond E. Harshman

Raymond E. Harshman, age 77, Albany, died Thursday January 5, 2017 at Albany Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.  Born in Albany on July 29, 1939, he was the son of Ralph M. and Letha G. (Myers) Harshman.  Ray graduated from Albany High School with the class of 1957 and was a graduate of Indiana Business College.  He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked twenty years for the Indiana State Police as a dispatcher at the Pendleton and Redkey posts before retiring.  He also dispatched at the Delaware County Sheriff Dept. and assisted at the funeral home in Albany for several years.  Ray was well known locally for his longtime service as an emergency vehicle driver at Albany E.M.S. where he received multiple awards and made more emergency runs than any other.  He attended White Chapel Congregational Christian Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife of thirty-one years, Carolyn J. Harshman; a son: Tim Harshman (wife: Sandy), Daleville; two daughters: Debby Harshman (friend: Leann), Muncie, and Shelly Harshman, Albany; a step-son: Daniel Carmin (wife: Missy), Indianapolis; three step-daughters: Katherine Savage (husband: Steve), Anderson, Carla Wheawill (husband: Bill), Anderson, and Ruthanna Rogers, Albany; a sister: Evelyn Cronkite, Portland; a granddaughter: Kara Harshman, and a step-granddaughter: Ava Carmin.  Nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Don Harshman, Bob Harshman, and Harold Gerhart, and an infant grandson: Jeremy Ray Harshman.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday January 9, 2017, at Meacham Funeral Service.  Burial will follow at Strong Cemetery with military rites provided by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given directly to the family.
