Mintford H. Hicks, age 74, Dunkirk, died Sunday night at Parker Health Care & Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 28, 1942 in Banner Springs, Tennessee, he served in the Indiana National Guard and was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, Dunkirk. He was a mold maker at Kerr Glass (now Ardagh) for sixteen years and was a truck driver for Northeast Chemical and Metropolitan for ten years. He enjoyed old cars and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty-three years, Linda Hicks, and their daughters: Lynn Shoopman (husband: Paul, Jr.), Redkey, and Tracy Bowler (husband: Eric), Dunkirk; two brothers: Mitchell Hicks and James Hicks; seven sisters: Sheila Shaver, Irene Miller, Kathy Atkinson, Velma Miller, Kay Hicks, Cleda Bonvillan, and Ann Davenport; six grandchildren: Dylan Bowler, Deryk Bowler, Jamie Willis (husband: David), Alan Brown (wife: Desi), Zach Brown (wife: Katelyn), and Michaela Houseman; five great-grandchildren: Leighton & Josh Brown, Robin & Darrell Houseman, and Emily Willis; also, several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Least & Oakley (Young) Hicks; six siblings: Betty Hembree, Rella Ramsey, Johnny Hicks, Jerry Hicks, William Hicks, and Manas Hicks; his father-in-law: Jerry McCowan, and two brothers-in-law: Darrell McCowan and Harold Cates.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at First Freewill Baptist Church, Dunkirk. Burial will follow at the Dunkirk I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
