ALBANY – Mary L. Porter, age 83, rural Albany, died Tuesday morning at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital following an illness. Born in Indianapolis, IN on Apr. 14, 1929, she was the daughter of George and Jacque (Ellis) O’Bryant. She moved to the Albany area while in high school where she met Ted (Wayne) Porter to whom she was married for 54 years. Mary worked at Warner Gear in Muncie for over 20 years before retirement. She also worked for Lavon & Rollie St. John at The Dairy Dream in Albany during the early to mid 1960’s. She was a Past Matron of Order of The Eastern Star – Teresa Chapter 237 and belonged to a local sorority. Mary enjoyed bird watching, gardening, traveling, and for many years spending summers at Hill Lake.
Survivors include a son: Denny Porter, Redkey; a daughter: Vicky J. Tremaine (husband: Jim), New Castle; 3 brothers: Dan O’Bryant (wife: Jean), Redkey, Pat O’Bryant (wife: Patty), Albany, and Sonny O’Bryant (wife: Linda), Albany; a sister: Joetta Chambers-Culver (husband: Ray), Pinellas Park, FL; 2 grandchildren: James Tremaine (Shelia) and Holly Tremaine (Greg); 3 great-grandchildren: Alyssa Stephens (Cody), Brooke Gainer, and Keith Gainer; 2 great-great grandchildren: Alayna & Maddox; nieces, and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted (Wayne) Porter; her parents; 2 brothers: George and Mike O’Bryant, and 2 sisters: Virginia Tilden and Cledah Scut.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Meacham Funeral Service, Albany, with burial following at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
