ALBANY – Jean Bellar, 87, Albany, passed away Sunday October 29, 2017 at Albany Health Care where she resided for two months. She was born March 13, 1930 in Vanceburg, Kentucky, the daughter of Herbert & Gertrude (Long) Hickle. They moved to Indiana in 1940 where she remained a resident of Albany for the rest of her life. She married Duane Bellar on March 18, 1946. Jean was a caring, kind-hearted person and had a zest for life. She enjoyed working outside, reading, and antiquing – always searching for Albany Glass as well as going to Basket Bingo and the casino. Most people will remember Jean as an employee of Minars’ IGA, Albany, where she worked for twenty-six years, retiring from there in the 1990s. She was a member of Union Chapel Ministries, Muncie, and a past member of Albany Tri Kappa.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons: Tom Bellar (wife: Chris), Albany, and Rick Bellar (wife: Wendy), Dauphin Island, AL; two grandchildren: Brittany Bellar and Toby Bellar, both of Albany; two step grandchildren: Jeff Mansfield, Muncie, and Westin Huffer, Dauphin Island, FL; two sisters: Jackie Vandenplas, Muncie, and Rita Cannon, Albany, and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister: Margie Sumwalt.
Services will be 12 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Meacham Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
