Helen (Holmes) Engle

Former Albany resident Helen (Holmes) Engle, age 83 of Buford, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017, in Georgia.  Born June 23, 1933 in Camden, Indiana, she was a 1951 graduate of South Bend Central High School.  She worked for South Bend Lathe and also worked as a load planner for United Airlines for six years in Chicago, Illinois where she met her future husband.  She won the Hillsborough County Senior School Volunteer Award in 1990 in Florida and volunteered for Camp Fire Girls where she was a group leader.  Mrs. Engle also volunteered for Buford Elementary School Media Center in Buford, Georgia, and was a member of the Buford First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter: Kendra Bailey (husband: Joel), Dacula, GA; a step-son: Steven Engle (wife: Roberta), Griffin, GA; two grandsons: Ryan Bailey and Todd & Amanda Engle; a great-granddaughter: Abigail J. Engle, and a great-grandson: Corbin B. Engle.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Henry “Bill” Engle; her parents: Benton & Mabel Holmes, and a sister: Marjorie Ann Holmes.

A funeral ceremony in Georgia will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Dr. Sondra R. Jones officiating.  Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home in Buford.

Burial will take place at Strong Cemetery, Albany.  There will be no services at the cemetery.
